“The Church of Greece restored the truth regarding the misunderstanding about the demand to the Ministry of Labour to provide the relevant special compensation of the ERGANI support platform to the clergy.”
Church officials told ANA-MPA: “The demand of the Holy Synod is not concerning the clergy, that is metropolitans, vicars, deacons, preachers, but only the laypeople working in churches, that is chanters and sextons.” Moreover, they added that the demand was made due to the ban on the services of churches and monasteries, in which laypeople work. Finally, it was made clear that churches and monasteries are not funded by the State.
