Patriarch Daniel issued a message for International Nurses Day referring to nurses as “the hands of God’s merciful love.”
The Patriarch of Romania praised the courage and dedication of all female and male nurses from Romania and abroad, ‘who combine the faith in God with love for their neighbour’ in their activity.
“International Nurses Day, celebrated this year in the context of the new coronavirus pandemic, is an opportunity to express our gratitude and to offer prayers to God for those who, along with doctors in hospitals and quarantine and isolation centres, are constantly watching for the care of those who are suffering, fulfilling vocationally and professionally the word of the Saviour Jesus Christ: ‘I was sick, and you visited me’ (Matthew 25:36).”
In his message, Patriarch Daniel noted that “the Romanian Orthodox Church particularly appreciates the valuable contribution of nurses to human health care.’ The Patriarch also mentioned the 800 medical and social centres established and supported by the Romanian Orthodox Church, where ‘nurses are recognized for the importance of their work and skills.”
The Patriarch of Romania extended “blessings and warm thanks” to all nurses, saying that he offers prayers “to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Physician of our bodies and souls, to give them good health and much help to fulfil their noble mission in the service of their peers.”
