Archimandrite Serafim Grigoraș from the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iași was enthroned on Tuesday as the abbot of “St. John the New of Suceava” Monastery.
Damaschin of Dorna, Auxiliary Bishop of Suceava and Rădăuți, officiated the cheirothesia ceremony, with the participation of Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic, Abbot of Putna Monastery, and Archimandrite Nectarie Clinci, Abbot of Sihăstria Putnei Monastery.
“At vespers time and at the beginning of the new ecclesiastical year, we make a new beginning for this venerable monastery, a soothing place for so many Christian souls,” said Damaschin of Dorna.
“It is not just an administrative action we are doing. Along with his appointment, Father Serafim also gets grace and strength from God to serve the Church in his capacity by advising this monastic community,” added the auxiliary bishop.
The hierarch wished the new abbot a fruitful activity under the protection of Saint John the New of Suceava.
Born in the town of Eșanca, Botoșani county, Archimandrite Serafim Grigoraș entered monasticism in 1987 at the Putna Monastery. Between 1990 and 2020 he served at the Metropolitan Cathedral in the city of Iași and in 2017 he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite. He is among the founders of the Holy Trinty Monastery in his town of birth.
