A memorial service was held for the repose of the souls of the Greeks martyred during the pogrom on September 1955, as well as for the repose of the soul of Stavros Avgerinos, Archon and Hieropsalt of the Metropolis of Chalcedon, at the Church of Panagia Koumariotissa in Nichori yesterday Sunday, September 6, 2020.
The Community said goodbye to Christos Psomiadis, who has served as protopsaltis of the Community of Neochori for 9 consecutive years, and now is returning to Greece. As reported by fanarion.blogspot.com, the Community offered him an engraving depicting the priest’s house in Nichori during the Ottoman rule.
On Sunday afternoon, the cultural events “Theotokia 2020,” organized this year by the Community of Neochori, were completed with the presentation of the book by the author Nektaria Anastasiadou, “A Recipe for Daphne”, which took place in the courtyard of the Church of Panagia Koumariotissa.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew attended the event. Metropolitan Maximos of Silyvria was also present.
The event was opened by Nikos Papaioannou who is in charge of the programme of “Theotokia” events. The President of the Community and Archon Megas Hartophylax, Lakis Vigas, had a meaningful dialogue with the author in English.
A reception followed in the courtyard of the church.
