The final vote for the constitutional amendments to be held on Thursday

On Thursday, March 14, the parliamentary procedure for the constitutional revision comes to an end, passing the baton on to the next one.

The plenary session of the Greek Parliament is called upon to decide which constitutional amendments, which at the first vote on February 14 were given the green light, will be voted on in the Parliament that emerges from the next general election.

SYRIZA insisted that the vote was binding to Parliament that emerged from the next general election as regards the direction and content of the constitutional amendments. New Democracy and Democratic Alignment explicitly reject this point, arguing exactly the opposite.

According to the ANA-MPA, the debate will not last long, as it will start at 10 am and it will end on the same day by roll-call vote.

One of the crucial constitutional amendments proposed by SYRIZA is the establishment of State religious neutrality.

Individual proposals made by MPs concerning the non-discrimination based on sex and sexual orientation are also important.

The results of the first vote

In the first vote, 33 provisions were approved with 151-179, while 15 provisions, (six concerning the abolition of transitional articles), received over 200 votes in favour.

With more than 151 votes, the provisions of Article 3 on the establishment of State religious neutrality and the provisions on articles 13, 33, 59 concerning the political oath were given the green light for the second vote.
