With the participation of the Metropolitans of Attica and the presence of the infectious disease specialist, S. Tsiodras, the Standing Holy Synod chaired by Archbishop Ieronymos is meeting at this time.

All those who came to the synodal mansion were subjected to body temperature measurement while antiseptics have been placed on the desks of the metropolitans.

As the Holy Synod informs with the photos it publishes, all necessary measures against the spread of coronavirus are observed in the room where the meeting is held.

In addition, according to statements by the Church of Greece Spokesperson Harry Konidaris, the Professor of infectious diseases and Health Ministry spokesperson for the management of coronavirus risk Sotiris Tsiodras was invited to attend this meeting.

It is reminded that the Head of the Church of Greece asked the 11 Metropolitans of Attica to attend the Synod on Monday in order to make decisions together with the Standing Holy Synod.

The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, had a meeting the previous days with Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens during which he asked him to keep churches open only for individual worship and for performing important mysteries. However, only a handful of people will be allowed to be in the churches.

Following the government’s decision on Friday to close schools, sports fields, theatres, cinemas, restaurants and cafés in order to prevent the coronavirus spread, it seems impossible that the temples will remain open.
