Students of the University of Macedonia sang the Akathist Hymn at St. Therapon Church in Thessaloniki

In an atmosphere full of reverence and veneration, the service of the Akathist Hymn was held at Saint Therapon Church, in the Kato Toumpa area, Thessaloniki.

Archimandrite Iakovos Athanasiou, Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis and Primate of the Church presided the service in front of the Holy Icon of Virgin Mary, with the participation of a 70-member chorus, consisting of students of the University of Macedonia, under the guidance of the Cantor (Protopsaltes) Georgios Patronas, Professor of Byzantine Music in the same university.

In the presence of the Rector of the University, the Dean and members of the Rectoral Authorities, a crowd of believers swarmed the temple to honor Virgin Mary.

Archimandrite Iakovos spoke of the importance of the cultivation of the traditional byzantine music, emphasizing that the fact that young people engage in byzantine music is truly encouraging.
