“The Patriarch of Georgia has the wisdom to make a decision on the Autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church,” said Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, shortly after the meeting with His Beatitude Catholicos- Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia.
His Eminence talking to the Media stressed: “It is a great pleasure to be in the hospitable country of Georgia today and especially in the courtyards of the Holy Church of Georgia.”
According to Metropolitan Emmanuel, head of the delegation that arrived today in Tbilisi, it was a “friendly meeting among sister churches”.
“The purpose of today’s visit was the fraternal cooperation with the Patriarch and the Hierarchs of the Church of Georgia, where we exchanged views on the issues concerning the Orthodoxy in general, and we talked about the granting of the status of autocephaly by the Mother Church of Constantinople to the Church of Ukraine,” emphasized Metropolitan Emmanuel.
Regarding the autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine, the Metropolitan of France said: “We did not come to impose anything on the Church of Georgia! The Patriarch of Georgia will lead with wisdom and prudence the Church of Georgia to do the right thing. There is an excellent cooperation between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Georgian Patriarchate.”
The Metropolitan of France concluded: “Τhe discussion was on all the issues related to Orthodoxy today. We must maintain the unity of the Orthodox Church and we have entirely agreed.”
