Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the Maximos Mansion.
The Archbishop was welcomed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the entrance of the Maximos Mansion.
“I am very pleased to welcome you to the Maximos Mansion, Your Eminence, and I am very pleased to meet you. I look forward to a very effective cooperation with you. There are many issues that we must address, but always in good faith, with good mood and respecting the constitutional imperatives of Articles 3 and 13 of the Constitution, for which, I have already informed you, there will be no change in the Constitutional Review,” the Prime Minister highlighted.
For his part, the Archbishop wished the new Prime Minister strength and patience in his work.
“I wish to wish you in person and as a friend strength and patience because our homeland has many needs and we must find the appropriate solutions and appropriate placements for the problems you have mentioned and others that exist within a close cooperation in the area of the Church and of the State,” Archbishop Ieronymos underlined.
At the meeting, they agreed that there is a need for immediate reopening of the Dialogue Committee between Church and State, with a view to resolving all issues related to the two institutions, such as religious education in schools and the exploitation of ecclesiastical property.
At the same time, Mitsotakis fully guaranteed the safeguarding of the existing wage, insurance and pension rights of the clergy, while the Archbishop underlined that for the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy, the well-known proposal of the Church-State Agreement last November is regarded as non-existent.
