The event for the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the Hellenic Bible Society at the Athens Concert Hall took place on Wednesday afternoon in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.

Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros and President of the Hellenic Bible Society, Metropolitan Anthimos of Alexandroupolis, Metropolitan Ieremias of Gortyn and Megalopolis, Metropolitan Ioannis of Pergamon, and Metropolitan Konstantinos of Singapore attended the event while the Archbishop was accompanied by Protosyncellus and Bishop of Thespies, Symeon.

The Metropolitan of Demetrias welcomed the attendees, stressing that “this event for those who work or associate with the society is an opportunity to thank God, and to honour those who have worked for 200 years to spread the Holy Bible. Moreover, it is an opportunity for reflection on what has been done and what needs to be done. ”

Prokopis Pavlopoulos said that it was essential to attend this event in order pay tribute to those who work to spread the Word of God, stressing that “Personally, as a kind of confession, I want to make clear that I am here on behalf of the State in order to pay tribute to hose who work to spread the Word of God. We all need to know that the Bible is a true spiritual legacy.”

The Archbishop thanked those who worked for so many years in faith and devotion so that God’s Word was the basis for every human being and wished “the Word of God to be a way of living in our everyday life.”
