Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand paid a visit to the Greek Community of Melbourne last week, accompanied by Auckland Priest George Kanellis and Metropolitan Secretary Evangelos Kambitakis.
Metropolitan Myron met with GCM President Bill Papastergiades and Secretary-General Kostas Markos, who briefed him on the Community’s activities.
There was also discussion surrounding possible cooperation between the GCM and New Zealand’s Greek community on cultural and educational matters.
“We discussed how we can help the New Zealand Holy Metropolis on a variety of issues,” Papastergiadis told Neos Kosmos.
“One of them is to work together to promote a film that is now being completed, which is about setting up an orphanage in Fiji, as well as other facilities. With the cooperation of the community, the film will be screened in Melbourne and details will be announced soon.”
The hour-long meeting also saw Papastergiaidis give insight to the Metropolitan on how the GCM functions to achieve everything it has so far, along with the establishment of its Greek educational programs.
“We presented our experience as a community organisation, emphasising that we work collectively with our benefactors and the community for our projects and actions. In particular, we explained how we succeeded in creating the Greek Centre, the Community’s 15-storey building.”
