Metropolitan of Nafpaktos: What is the Church for the government, a hairdresser or a supermarket?

“I look forward to a return not only to normalcy but also to ecclesiasticalism,” said Metropolitan Hierotheos of Nafpaktos, speaking on SKAI TV, ahead of the prime minister’s announcements about the gradual lifting of restrictions imposed due to the conoravirus.

“Since the problem is overcrowding, we will take all the necessary measures, we will do what they have instructed us to do. I don’t know if they have other reasons,” the Metropolitan of Nafpaktos stressed.

He commented on the statements made by the government spokesman that the churches would be opened gradually and that the request expressed in the letter by Archbishop Ieronymos would not be met, and added that after his continuous interventions yesterday in the media he felt a disappointment.

“What is Church to them? What is the Church, is it a union, is it a supermarket? Is it worse than a supermarket? Is it worse than a beauty salon? What is the church, isn’t it a divine organization that has a tradition of 20 centuries?” Archbidhop Ierotheos pointed out.

He also wondered “What is this power and what are the limits of power?” and he explained that he was saying this because he was aware that the decision sent by the commission of experts to the Prime Minister was “based on what the Archbishop is saying without raising the issue of faith.”
