Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias, speaking on the ANT1 television station, took a stand on the major, this period, issue of coronavirus and whether the faithful were at risk by the Holy Communion.

“If a man becomes ill and I deprive him of the Holy Communion, what will happen?” Metropolitan Ignatius asked, noting that priests are informing people of the measures they must take for their protection.

He added, however, that the people’s faith will not be shaken if they receive the Holy Communion a little later.

“The time will come when we can receive the Holy Communion freely without fear,” he stressed and underlined the family’s unity.

“I would never want a family to break up, to fight over whether or not a member of the family would receive the Communion. Let’s be patient. I would advocate family unity,” f. Ignatios said.

“We will seve but we will not force people to receive the Holy Communion. Everyone will take their personal responsibility. I cannot deprive Eucharist to the believers if they seek it. Faith saves. There are miracles, there are saints” he highlighted, adding: “If a believer does not come, we will not condemn him/her.”
