Feast of Saint Paul was solemnly celebrated where he first preached the Gospel

The city of Kavala today celebrates its patron saint, Saint Paul the Apostle to the Nations, and the 107th anniversary of its liberation from the Bulgarian occupation troops.

Due to the COVID-19 special conditions, the procession of the holy icon of Saint Paul in the main streets of the city did not take place this year while the established Vigil service will not take place in the ruins of Basilica I  in the archeological site of Philippi. Saint Paul preached the Holy Gospel for the first time at this site, thus establishing the first Christian church in Europe and Greece.

Metropolitan Stefanos of Philippi, Neapolis and Thasos presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint Paul this morning while, a little later, the official doxology for the anniversary of the liberation of the city took place.
