Donation of the Church of Greece to the National Health System amounting to almost 100,000 euros

During today’s meeting, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and the members of the Standing Holy Synod received Minister of Health Vasilis Kikilias, to whom sanitary material was given for the needs of the National Health System, as a donation from the Church of Greece, ie ten (10) monitors for the equipment of the intensive care units, worth € 85,000.00, and one (1) central monitoring station for ICUs, worth € 12,000.00.

During the handover ceremony, which took place in the presence of the members of the Standing Holy Synod, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece stated, “We are watching your struggle and the trial of our homeland. We have supported you as much as possible under difficult and harsh conditions for us. We owe a big thank you to the prime minister and the Government for the measures taken so early in order to have as few victims in our country as possible.”

He also added, “The Church has been familiar with the Health system since time immemorial. Many hospitals have been built on Church plots. Today, due to our own difficulties, we cannot respond as we did back then. But we give from the heart of the Church, which does not cease to be the mother of us all, a small gift that we offer to you today.

The Minister of Health thanked Archbishop Ieronymos and stressed, “You are proving in the crisis, once again, that you love your flock and stand by the side of man. All together, the State, the people and, of course, the Church, we have given a battle, we have made a great effort and I think that the value of human life is being re-evaluated, as it should be.”
