Delegation of the Holy Synod on Mount Athos for the celebrations of the 200th anniversary since 1821

A delegation of the Holy Synod visited Mount Athos yesterday in connection with the celebrations for the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821.

The delegation, which consisted of Synodal Hierarchs Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, Athanasios of Sisanio and Siatista, as well as the Secretary of the Special Synodical Committee on Cultural Identity, Archimandrite Bartholomew Anthoniou-Triantaphillidis, met at Karyes with Protepistatis Elder Pavlos Lavriotis and the and the Holy Epistasia of Mount Athos.

The purpose of the meeting was to convey the request from June 6, 2020 of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece for the participation of Mount Athos in the Synodal and Regional Events organized by the Church of Greece, on the occasion of the 200 years since the National Rebirth (Paliggenesia) of 1821.

The Holy Epistasia gladly accepted the request of the Church of Greece and decided to forward it to the Holy Community for further procedural steps.
