A co-operation agreement between the Ecumenical Refugee Program (KSPM) of the Church of Greece and the International Organization for Migration was signed today at noon at the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece welcomed the head of the Organization, Mr. Gianluca Rocco, noting that “there is a willingness to support the program for unaccompanied children, but under conditions”. He explained that children should be carefully selected on the basis of their age, and there should also be financial support.

“Under these conditions we will do our best to help,” the Archbishop stressed, adding that “when these children grow up they will remember those who helped them.” He also pointed out that “Europe’s borders are at sea and not in Macedonia, so all our friends and partners have an obligation to guard these borders along with us.”

The program includes the immediate operation of four structures for hosting unaccompanied minors, and each structure will be able to accommodate about 40 children.
