The Church of Cyprus calls on believers to abstain from all liturgies for three weeks, that is until the 10th of April.

In its today’s announcement, following measures put into place by the Cypriot government, the Church of Cyprus calls on all believers to pray to God to “reduce the time of this trial” and to “get out of this deadly situation as soon as possible.” It also states, “Although, according to the Typikon of our Church, many liturgies are performed during Great Lent, we call on the faithful to abstain from all of them for three weeks (until 10 April) in order to reduce the spread of the disease.” Moreover, “Abstinence from the liturgies and the mystery of Holy Communion for three weeks should not weigh heavily on the conscience of our flock. The new situation resulting from this trial will be beneficial.

In addition to the live broadcast on television of the liturgies, the Rejoicings of the Virgin Mary (Chairetismoi) every Friday, and the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, everyone will be able to follow the daily broadcasts on the radio.
