Clergy: We are religious ministers, assimilated to civil servants

The response of the Association of Greek Clergy to Minister of Education Kostas Gavroglou was immediate, following what he said in the interview he gave yesterday.

According to a statement by the Association of Greek Clergy (ISKE), the minister refers to the two Council of State decisions on clergy status “only in half. We are religious ministers, assimilated (legal fiction) with Civil Cervants. Why does the Minister avoid this detail?”, the clergy noted.

ISKE also said that the clergy do not blackmail anyone, “ever, since this is incompatible with their capacity and mission, which, despite their human weaknesses, they everyday try to serve with zeal and faith in God and with great willingness and love to people.”

They actually call the Minister of Education, in order to find who honours and who is honoured by the society, and “to walk together in society”. They also pointed out that anyone who questions and doubts the course of the members of ISKE’s board of directors, “should know that we are an integral part of the society that we serve every day.”
