Bishop Antonios of Salona was the one who was finally elected by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, as the new Metropolitan of Glyfada, after a thriller election.

The Bishop of Salona received 38 votes from the Body of the Hierarchy, and became the new Shepherd of the Metropolis of Glyfada.

Please note that there was a vote recount since there was a tie of 38-38 between the Bishop and Archim. Alexios Psoenos and pursuant to Regulations, Bishop Antonios is elected Metropolitan.

The new Metropolitan of Glyfada Antonios (born Dionysios) was born in Corfu.

He went to school in Athens and studied at the Economic High School A’ of Athens.

He then studied at the Schools of Law, Theology and Economics of the University of Athens.

He became a monk in the Iera Moni Asomaton Petraki in Athens.

He was ordained Deacon in 1979, with the blessing of Archbishop Seraphim of Athens, under Alexios, then Bishop of Diavleia, and now of Trikis, and he was ordained Presbyter in 1981 by Elder Meletios, Metropolitan of Nicopolis.

He served as a preacher in the Metropolis of Preveza and as a priest at the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital and in the Church of St. Skepi in Papagos.

It should be noted that he stayed on Mount Athos for four years.

Since 1998 he has served in the Economic Department of the Holy Synod, of which he has been General Director since last year.
