Τhe working sessions of the Standing Holy Synod continued today, Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

As Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece stated when leaving the meeting, “today we discussed too many issues, and we also touched on the issue of the clergy payroll. We are waiting for the competent committees that are meeting right now. The whole issue is being studied and the decision will be made according to the will of the State, the Church, and especially, the priests, whom this matter concerns. When the meeting of the Hierarchy that will take place during the first week after Sunday of Orthodoxy (19-20 March) ends, we will have the whole picture.”

Regarding the issue of Ukraine, the Archbishop noted that it was also raised today during the working session of the Standing Holy Synod.

“We also discussed the Ukrainian issue today, but we have not yet come to an end. The competent committees are meeting on this matter too,” the Archbishop added.

Regarding the recognition of the new Autocephalous Church of Ukraine, although Athens-Fanar relations are undergoing a crisis, Athens is not expected to challenge the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, but that remains to be seen in practice.
