“I cannot take such a responsibility on my own [i.e. the recognition of the Ukrainian Church’s Autocephaly], I will take the matter to the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy to decide that”.

The above is said to have been stated by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, during the meeting of the Standing Holy Synod completed today.

The issue of the recognition of the new Ukrainian Autocephalous Church was also raised during the proceedings.

According to information from romfea.news, the discussion was held in a calm atmosphere, where all members of the Synod expressed their views.

“We have jointly recognized the Archbishop’s privilege of handling the matter himself”, said an Hierarch who attended the meeting.

The same source emphasized that Archbishop Ieronymos listened with great interest to the views of the Hierarchs and thanked them for their support and recognition of his privilege.

Finally, the aforementioned information indicate that Archbishop Ieronymos, although the subject is out of the agenda, will propose to discuss the Ukrainian issue after the Metropolitans’ elections, in the Hierarchy in October.
