On the afternoon of Sunday, August 30, the Central Youth Committee “Saint Stephen the First Martyr” of the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide organized the screening of the film “Saint Joseph the Hesychast” in the event hall of the Greek Orthodox Community and Parish of Prophet Elias at the suburb of Norwood in Adelaide.

Attendees were encouraged to follow the example of St. Joseph the Hesychast and persevere in their spiritual struggle, walking the narrow path to salvation.

As reported by vema.com.au, the event was attended by Bishop Silouan of Sinope, together with priests of Adelaide.

The Central Philoptochos Fraternity of the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide took the noble initiative to display for sale a variety of books, icons, prayer ropes and other cult objects.

The film provides information about St. Joseph as a true exponent of the neptic and hesychastic patristic tradition and an authentic teacher of continuous inner prayer. It also vividly depicts the way in which the saint overcame his passions by cultivating nepsis, practicing obedience, enduring temptations, and engaging in mental ascesis.

After the screening of the film, Bishop Silouan of Sinope pointed out that, even in the moments when the saint lamented his human weaknesses, Christ was still with him. “As He is with us,” he added, “not only in moments of joy, like those we live as brothers at the moment, but He is the one Who walks beside us every moment and trial, during our greatest loneliness.”
