Yeni Safak: Turkey has the right to intervene in Greek islands

The pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak insists on cultivating a climate of war, believing that Turkey has the right to intervene on Greek islands.

The newspaper cites estimates by experts, according to which Greece, by transporting soldiers to the islands with a demilitarized regime, lost its sovereignty.

Turkish media have been claiming in recent days that Greece transported Greek soldiers to Kastelorizo by ship, while today the Yeni Safak newspaper claims that in the same way Greece has now sent troops to Rhodes.

Today’s front-page article by Yeni Safak, entitled “Turkey has the right to intervene”, states that according to experts, the illegal sending of troops to the islands gives the right to political, legal and military intervention in Turkey.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, Yeni Safak, is hosting an assessment by Marmara University professor of international law Selami Kuran, who considers that Greece is violating the demilitarization regime of the islands.

“If with this deployment of troops Turkey feels that its own independence is threatened, then it is a clear threat. If political and diplomatic efforts fail, it may take the necessary measures under the legal right of defence provided in Article 51 of the UN Charter. It can neutralize military elements one by one in air, sea and land”, states.
