Yanis Varoufakis at the Ecumenical Patriarchate

The MP and Secretary-General of the Greek political party MeRA25, prof. Yianis Varoufakis, visited today, Monday, December 16, the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Mr. Varoufakis, who was accompanied by his wife, Danai Stratou, and his associates, was received by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

During their private meeting they discussed topical issues, and the head of MeRA25 informed the Ecumenical Patriarch about the activities of the pan-European political movement DiEM25, as well as the lectures he gave at University institutes in Constantinople.

The Patriarch, for his part, briefed Mr. Varoufakis on the initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the context of the inter-Orthodox, inter-Christian, but also intercultural dialogue, which aims to promote peaceful co-existence, solidarity and creative collaboration among the peoples of the world. He also referred to issues of concern to the Greek Diaspora in Constantinople and to the Orthodox faithful in Turkey in general.
