What are the decisions of Holy Synod of Ecumenical Patriarchate

The new Metropolitan of Metres and Athyra and three new Bishops were elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on Monday, August 31, following a proposal from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

Bishop Dimitrios of Therma was voted unanimously as Metropolitan of Metres and Athyra by the members of the Holy Synod, which was held at the Patriarchal Church after three candidates were proposed.

Then, the members of the Holy Synod successively elected three new Bishops, who will serve as Assistant Bishops to Metropolitan Athinagoras of Mexico, namely Archimandrites Isichios Thanos as Bishop of Markiani, Athinagoras Saul Alfonso Perez Galvis as Bishop of Myrina, and Timoteo Louis Antonio Torres Esquivel as Bishop of Assos.

The meeting of the Holy Synod, with which the regular sessions for the month of August were completed, took place in the Phanar while over the last two days it met at the Halki seminary. During the Holy Synod’s work, all the issues on the agenda were discussed, for which the appropriate decisions were taken.

At the end of the meeting, Metropolitan Jeremiah of Ankara delivered an address and reply, on behalf of the six outgoing members of the Holy Synod, and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew delivered an address and reply for the end of the current synodal period.
