The Ukrainian issue at the heart of the Holy Synod of the Serbian Patriarchate

The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Serbia, which met last week in Belgrade, chaired by Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, dealt, among others things, with the situation in the Ukrainian Church.

The Holy Synod of the Serbian Church in its communiqué condemns the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s intervention “in other local Churches’ affairs.”

“The biggest problem with the Orthodox Church today is that the Church in Ukraine has been divided after the failed attempt by the Patriarchate of Constantinople to solve the problem unilaterally,” says the Holy Synod of the Serbian Church.

Also, the Holy Synod underlines that Autocephaly was given without any previous discussion with the Canonical Church in Ukraine nor with the Russian Orthodox Church.

Finally, the Church of Serbia reaffirms that it does not recognize the newly established structure in Ukraine nor Metropolitan Epiphanius as the head of it.
