The Ecumenical Patriarch convenes the Third International Halki Conference

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew convenes the Third International Halki Conference on Theology and Ecology from May 31 to June 4 in Constantinople. The Conference will invite to the round table about fifty distinguished theologians and specialists, from forty Theological Schools and Institutes from all over the world, in order to discuss theological education and ecological awareness.

The International Halki Conference is considered to be a scientific conference in which the participants will have the opportunity to attend the speeches of distinguished environmental theologians (Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant) and to discuss ways in which ecological awareness can be cultivated and promoted by Orthodox Theological Schools and Higher Education Institutions, through courses and other programs related to the protection of God’s Creation.

The ultimate goal is that ecological awareness will be incorporated into the curricula of the Theological Schools, promoting this way the culture of dialogue and exchange of views and experiences, as expressed in the previous two Conferences, and as evidenced by the long-standing interest and ongoing initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, for three decades, to protect the natural environment.

The conference will take place in a central hotel of Constantinople instead of Halki.
