With the blessings and wishes of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the chapel of St. Paisios of Mount Athos, which is located in the Monastery of St. John of the Mountain, in Perth, Western Australia, has reached the final stages of its construction.
By the Grace of God, the main part of the church was completed, while the ecclesiastical objects that will be placed inside the church are expected to arrive from Greece. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the shipment of the items was delayed, but the Monastery recently contacted the manufacturers in Thessaloniki and was informed that they would be shipped soon, with expected delivery before Christmas.
It is noted that the chapel has been built in Byzantine style, according to the form of the Katholikon of the Simonopetra Monastery of Mount Athos.
The construction of the chapel of Saint Paisios became possible after a large donation by Nikolaos Kakoulas from Kastellorizo, who covered the entire amount of construction of the church in memory of his wife Anastasia.
It is reminded that the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, under the presidency of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, unanimously decided the canonization of the monk Paisios of Mount Athos by the Orthodox Church on January 13, 2015. The feast of the Saint was set on July 12.
