Spanish FM: Hagia Sophia must remain part of common heritage of humankind

Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Arancha González Laya said today that it was important for Hagia Sophia to remain part of common heritage of humankind, after being converted into a mosque last week.

“It is important for us to maintain the spirit of this great monument of Hagia Sophia,” the Spanish foreign minister said during a joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Ankara.
