“Provide the Holy Communion to patients at home,” Pope Francis says to the priests

The “quarantine” measures imposed on Italy by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte have led to empty streets and queues in supermarkets, with the Italians trying to adapt to the new situation.

The Church of the country complies with the instructions of the Italian government. Specifically, and as far as patient assistance is concerned, Pope Francis called on Catholic priests to provide the Holy Communion at home to patients in isolation.

“We ask God for our priests to find the power to bring God’s word and Eucharist to the patients by supporting the work of volunteers, doctors and nurses,” the Pontiff stressed.

In Italy’s Catholic churches, the services were suspended until April 3, and no religious weddings and funerals will be held.
