The Greek community of South Australia warmly welcomed Archbishop Makarios on August 31 at Adelaide Airport.

Premier of South Australia Steven Marshall, as well as members of both the South Australian and the Federal Parliament, welcomed the Archbishop of Australia in the airport. The Assistant Bishop to Archbishop in Adelaide, Bishop Nikandros of Dorylaion also welcomed the Archbishop. The clergy and hundreds of faithful were cheering enthusiastically their new shepherd.

The premier expressed his pleasure at Archbishop Makarios’ visit to Adelaide and stressed that “it is a great honour and privilege to have Archbishop Makarios with us these days. This is a historic day for all of us and particularly for all the Greek people from South Australia. We hope this is the first of many visits to South Australia.”

Archbishop Makarios thanked the premier, the Bishop of Dorylaion, and the faithful for the warm welcome. He thanked God for his election. He also referred to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
