The pressures from some domestic politicians and NGOs to recognize the new Church of Ukraine are unacceptable, says the Georgian Orthodox Church.

“There is an ongoing pressure on our Church and the clergy to support the creation of the new Church in Ukraine, and whoever does not agree has pro-Russian tendencies,” said the head of the Patriarchate’s Press office, Archpriest Andreas.

Moreover, the head of the press office of the Patriarchate of Georgia said that the issue of the new church status of Ukraine requires special attention, since it is still difficult not only for the Slavic Churches but also the Greek churches to have a clear position.

Finally, the Archpriest Andreas noted that the question of the granting of autocephaly to a new Church is being studied by the Members of the Holy Synod and the decision will be taken solely on the basis of sacred rules.
