The revision of Article 3 of the Constitution about State-Church relations was approved by the parliament, as the counting of the vote that took place this morning shows.

In particular, Article 3.1 on basic provisions on religion has received 151 votes. It is worth noting that the revision of Article 3 for a state of religious neutrality was a flagship for SYRIZA.

According to sources from the Church of Greece who spoke at Romfea.news, the standing position of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece and of the Church of Greece was that there would be no change to Article 3 of the Constitution.

This position had been vigorously expressed by the Church before Minister Katrougalos and other ministers and deputies, in a relevant event at the War Museum, on June 7, 2017. And it was supported through three in-depth contributions by experts.

The process will continue after one month, when the second vote will be held in the plenary session, on the provisions obtained by a full majority of all MPs in this first vote.
