New Metropolitan of Limnos Ierotheos was enthroned

The new Metropolitan Ierotheos sent a message of cooperation and creativity to the clergy and faithful of the outlying islands of Limnos and Agios Efstratios.

The enthronement ceremony of the new shepherd was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Myrina in the presence of Archbishop Ieronymos, Metropolitans and clergymen.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was represented by Metropolitan Iosif of Proikonisos and the Greek government by Deputy Foreign Minister Antonis Diamataris. Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Charalampos Athanasiou addressed the new Metropolitan.

Metropolitan Iakovos of Mytilini, who served as locum tenens in the Metropolis of Limnos, stressed that Ierotheos was deemed to be the most appropriate shepherd for Limnos and wished him to stand by the side of the people as a shepherd.

Metropolitan Ierotheos of Limnos showed his respect to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, our Eastern Mother Church as he said, to Archbishop Ieronymos for the confidence in him and to the hierarchs who honoured him by voting him and attending his enthronement. Metropolitan Ierotheos also thanked many clergymen from his birthplace, Spetses and Hydra, and from Ilion, Kifisia and Markopoulo, where he served in previous years.

Metropolitan Ierotheos of Limnos spoke about the environment and the need for its protection as well as the importance of the geographical location of his diocese between Constantinople and Mount Athos. “Our places deserve much not by chance,” he said and praised the strength and courage of both the inhabitants of the islands of Limnos and Agios Efstratios and those who live abroad and continue to flourish.

He stressed that he would make efforts to promote the cultural heritage of the island as well as the future development of the site.
