“Let us invite the Lord to our house, that is to our own Church, and He will come to us,” said Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, where he officiated the Epitaphios Service behind closed doors.
Following the procession of the Epitaphios inside the Cathedral, the Archbishop of Athens emphasised that tonight we would pray all together, them from the Church and we from our domestic Church, and, therefore, we would mentally receive the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Moreover, he referred to the difficulties we have been experiencing over the last days due to the deadly pandemic. The Archbishop noted, “The current difficulty that has arisen in all parts of the world as well as in our home, the domestic Church, is an opportunity for all of us to find out how we can cultivate our love and how we can manifest it.”
The Archbishop also underlined that the term “domestic Church” was something that took us by surprise and it seemed difficult. However, he said that the domestic Church existed in prisons and in the soul of the elderly or the young people who were experiencing difficulties.
The Archbishop of Athens spoke of the time when Jesus Christ met Zacchaeus. He said that our Lord confessed that salvation had come to the house of Zacchaeus that day. “Let us invite the Lord to our house, that is our own Church, and He will come to us,” he added.
