Mount Athos said “No” to the invitation of the Ecumenical Patriarch for Ukraine

The Holy Community of Mount Athos declined the invitation of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to send a delegation to attend the enthronement of Ukraine’s new Primate, Epiphanius.

According to exclusive information from Romfea.gr, an extraordinary session of the Holy Community of Mount Athos was held yesterday, Monday.

The Holy Community of Mount Athos dealt with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s letter, in which he asked the Athonites to participate in a delegation for the enthronement of the new Primate of Ukraine.

Although there has been no official statement yet, information indicates that the Patriarch’s request did not receive a positive response.

According to information from Romfea.gr out of the 20 monasteries of Mount Athos, only 7 voted in favour of the participation in the enthronement to be held in Kiev on February 3.

The decision of Mount Athos raises concerns in the Fener since the Athonites try to keep a cool head, and have not decided explicitly which side they will take.
