Metropolitans of Limassol, Kykkos and Tamasos: Ecclesiastical order is the only one that can avert the risk of a schism

Metropolitans of Limassol, Kykkos and Tamasos clarify, in a joint communiqué, their position regarding the Ukrainian issue, following articles published on this issue.

In their communiqué, the three metropolitans emphasize that these reports are “untrue, non-existent, defamatory and false. They misrepresent and distort the truth regarding our positions on this matter, and are written for an extraneous purpose, in a malicious way, in order to tarnish and undermine us and our role as Bishops, resulting in the disinformation and the triggering of the members of the Church.”

They want, through the communiqué, to state that they respect the institution of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and its historical role and that “our love for Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew remains constant and pure.”

They underline, however, that as church bishops they are concerned about the developments, since they believe that the unity of the Church is faced with schism because of the Ukrainian issue.

They also believe that granting the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Church of Ukraine should have been aligned with the rules and traditions of the Church, and that the ecclesiastical order is the only one that can solve the issue that has arisen, and avert the risk of a schism.

They call on the editors of the misleading articles to restore the “truth in consensus with our legal advisers, otherwise we have no choice but to resort to justice.”
