Metropolitan of Armenia visited Metropolis of Didymoteicho in Greece

Metropolitan Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, Orestiada and Soufli met the Metropolitan of Orthodox Armenians of Greece, Kegham Khatcherian, on Saturday, September 28.

The Armenian hierarch visited Didymoteicho on Saint George’s Day, whom the Church of Armenia celebrates on the last Saturday of September.

The coronation of Emperor John Kantakouzenos was held in the Byzantine Church of Saint George inside the Didymoteicho Castle on October 26, 1341. However, in the 16th century, it was given to the Armenian people and it belongs to them since.

The Metropolitan of Armenia was accompanied by the president of the Armenian Community in Didymoteicho. The Metropolitan of Didymoteicho welcomed the Armenian hierarch and his entourage. He then gave them a tour to the Cathedral of Panagia Eleftherotria in Didymoteicho, where they all had a fruitful discussion together.

Kegham Khatcherian is the hierarch of the Armenian Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, which was relocated in Antelias, a town in the north of Beirut, after the Armenian genocide in Asia Minor.
