Memorial service for former Archbishop of Australia, Stylianos, to be held on March 21

Archbishop Makarios of Australia

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia announces that the annual memorial service for the late Archbishop of Australia, Stylianos, will take place at the Cathedral of the Annunciation, Sydney, on Saturday, March 21, 2020. Archbishop Makarios of Australia will preside over the Divine Liturgy whilst the memorial address will be given by Metropolitan Seraphim of Sevastia.

Due to the current measures which have been enforced to limit the coronavirus spread and after communicating with the relatives of the late Archbishop that reside in Sydney and, most of all, with the Clinical Professor in Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Spiros Miyakis, who is Acting Director of Infectious Diseases at the Wollongong Hospital and a specialist in virology, the luncheon which was to follow the memorial service has been cancelled. In the meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Australia also encourages the faithful to pray for the memory of the late Archbishop by attending services at their local parishes.

On the same day, the Trisagion Service at the cemetery will be conducted by Archbishop Makarios of Australia, in the presence of only the closest family members and friends of the late hierarch.
