Speaking in the news bulletin of SKAI, Nikos Sypsas, professor of Infectious Diseases of the Medical School of the University of Athens and member of a group of experts for coordination of Greece’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic, stressed that no processions should take place this year on August 15 while expressing the belief that the church would once again be committed to its duty and would not allow processions and mass gathering as reported by skai.gr.

“I believe that common sense and prudence will prevail in the end. I believe that we can carry out religious observance perfectly without mass gatherings and one year may be without procession,” said Sypsas.

The infectious diseases specialist left open the possibility of further reducing the number of wedding guests, that is, from 100 that is currently in force to 50 or less.

“I suggest that the newlyweds should wait and throw a baptism party,” stressed Sypsas, noting that the experts’ group is considering the reduction of the number of guests after outbreaks of coronavirus occurred in two weddings in Alexandroupolis and Thessaloniki.
