IAO: The challenge is to do it all together, not to leave anyone behind

In the message by the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IOA), the need to strengthen public health systems to overcome the current crisis is underscored while reiterating that we must “do it all together” and “not leave anyone behind.”

“The current crisis has shown that our actions have an impact on the others and that, quite simply, we cannot do without one another,” emphasized the IAO in its announcement. The IAO also stressed the need “to put our trust in the people, the science and the institutions, but also to understand how fragile and valuable life is” as we now find out that the dilemma “Economy or Society” is “spurious.”

In the announcement, expressions such as “war on coronavirus” are used in order to indicate the gravity of the problem and the conflict, the asymmetric threat, and the need for effective response.

It is pointed out that the fact that some of us were more or less at risk than others did not mean that we had less or more responsibility for the evolution of the situation in which we live and decide how to deal with the crisis.

The first challenge, it points out, in the present crisis is what we call ‘public health’ in general terms. History has taught us that every crisis is an opportunity to deepen our cooperation and to protect our citizens.

“To do it all together, not to leave anyone behind: that is the main challenge.”
