Orthodox hierarchs meet with the Archbishop of Australia

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, the feast day of Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Great Princess Olha, Metropolitan Antony and Archbishop Daniel, accompanied by Fr. Michael Solomko (president of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Eparchy of Australia and New Zealand of the UOC in Diapora) traveled to Sydney for a meeting with the newly appointed Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, Makarios.

The meeting of the hierarchs commenced in the local Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where the students of Theology of St. Andrew’s Theological College welcomed the hierarchs of the UOC of the USA and Diaspora. During the cordial meeting, Archbishop Makarios (in a presence of Bishop Seraphim of Apollonias, Vicar General of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia) shared with the bishops of the UOC of the USA and Diaspora the historical account of the arrival of Greek Orthodox faithful to Australia.

Meantime, Vladyka Antony shared with the Archbishop of Australia a historical account of Ukrainian immigrants that have settled in Australia and New Zealand. Being the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and in Diaspora, Metropolitan Antony presented a brief overview of the ecclesiastical communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox faithful across the globe. Moreover, the hierarchs addressed several pastoral issues that touch the lives of various Ukrainian Orthodox communities in Australia.

At the end of the meeting, Metropolitan Antony presented Archbishop Makarios with a commemorative liturgical panahia set in honor of the Centennial of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. In his turn, Archbishop Makarios presented Metropolitan Antony and Vladyka Daniel with a liturgical Gospel Book, which was bound with the commemorative seal of Archbishop Makarios in honor of his election and enthronement as the Archbishop of Australia.

Both hierarchs of the UOC of the USA departed Australia for the United States of America on July 25, 2019, following the conclusion of the 19th Sobor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Diocese of Australia and New Zealand.
