The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, met US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt, in order to discuss issues, which will be debated during the forthcoming visit of the Greek minister of Culture and US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Marie Royce.

The main subject of discussion is the renewal of the Greece-US memorandum of understanding concerning the imposition of import restrictions on categories of archaeological and byzantine ecclesiastical ethnological material.

Another issue raised by the minister was the US film productions. Lina Mendoni said to the US ambassador that Greece was the ideal place for film productions thanks to its magnificent natural environment, specialized film crew and state aid in the form of tax exemptions.

Another issue discussed during the meeting was the exhibits and the anniversary events in honor of Greece’s bicentennial. The USA is interested in highlighting the role played by the US philhellenes, especially since the American Revolutionary War is associated with the Greek Revolution of 1821. On this occasion, there are several discussions to organize an exhibition in cooperation with many major US museums.
