Greek govt spokesman on Hagia Sophia: A fiesta in a museum of world cultural heritage bothers us

Stelios Petsas

“The fiesta that Ankara is preparing in Hagia Sophia is disturbing and is a matter of disapproval because, among other things, it has been characterized as a museum of world cultural heritage and is currently being used to promote other purposes,” government spokesman Stelios Petsas told SKAI 100.3., pointing out that this is not the first time such a thing has happened in the historic church.

Spokesman Petsas underlined that Greece is stronger than ever in relation to Turkey, due to both the treatment of the situation in Evros at the end of February and the successful treatment of the pandemic of coronavirus.

“We watch every provocation,” he added “but we will always promote good neighborly relations based on international law.”

Referring to the other issues, Mr. Petsas stated that the plan for allocating the money that we will receive from the European Union will be ready in the autumn and underlined that at the moment the prime minister is not considering elections.
