Ecumenical Patriarch: Ecological problem reveals that our problems are global and common

Today, Sunday, September 1, the start of Indiction and the beginning of the Liturgical Year was celebrated with great splendour at the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Since 1989, the 1st day of September is celebrated as the day of prayer for the protection of the Environment.

In his message, the Ecumenical Patriarch made a special reference to the 30th anniversary since the Mother Church established the Feast of Indiction as the “Day of Protection of the Environment.”

The Feast of the Indiction

The Ecumenical Patriarch presided over the Divine Liturgy this morning, held in St. George’s Cathedral and concelebrated with dozens ofArchpriests.

Patriarchal Commissioner of the All-Holy Sepulcher in Constantinople, Archbishop Nektarios of Anthedon, the Ambassador of Greece to Ankara, Petros Mavroidis, the Consul General of Ukraine to Constantinople, Oleksandr Gaman, and the faithful were prayerfully attending the Divine Liturgy.

In the end, the ceremony of the Indiction was held, during which the Ecumenical Patriarch read the wish and act of the new Indiction.
