“It is necessary for the Church to cooperate with the State, the local government and the individuals, so that in a society of love we can do projects that will help the people and our homeland,” stressed Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece, immediately after a meeting that was held this afternoon with the newly elected Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis.

Bakoyannis was welcomed by Protosyncellus Symeon, Bishop of Thespies. Right afterwards, the new Mayor thanked the Archbishop for the honour of accepting him and stressed that “he always gives us strength with his blessing and inspiration, with his very rich social work.”

He also added that “over the years there has been very good cooperation” between them “respecting the distinct roles.”

“I believe that this cooperation will continue. The big bet for everyone is to unite our forces, in order to move forward,” said Bakoyannis.

The Archbishop thanked the new Mayor of Athens for his visit, stressing that they had the opportunity to re-discuss issues that had concerned them in the past.

He also wished Bakoyannis to have strength and health, and reiterated that “it is necessary for the Church to cooperate with the State, the local government and the individuals, so that in a society of love we can do works that will help the people and our homeland.”

Earlier, MP of KINAL (Movement for Change) Kostas Skandalidis visited the Archbishop, who pointed out that every time he meets the Primary of the Greek Church, he gains somethings because, as he underlined, he meets a man who is a driver and gives courage and strength to the people to continue the struggle. Regarding their meeting, the Archbishop said that they discussed useful issues that have to do with the Church-State relations, but also specific daily issues.

Right afterwards the Archbishop met with the MP of New Democracy, Andreas Koutsoumbas, who thanked the Archbishop for the great and important charity work of the Church.
