Archbishop of Cyprus: We seek a just and sustainable solution to our national problem

“The goal of our struggle is not to find any solution, instead we are striving hard and firmly to find a just and sustainable solution to our national problem”, Archbishop Chrysostomos said in his address read at the opening of the 20th World Conference of Overseas Cypriots.

The Archbishop underlined the importance of a “solution that would preserve our national dignity and honor, rid the island of the presence of Turkish invading troops and settlers, ensuring that we preserve in the future the national identity and religion of our people in their ancestral place, with safety and peace”.

In his address, read by the Director of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus, Father Kyprianos Kountouris, the Archbishop further noted that “our daily concern and worry is the struggle to neutralize the dangers that threaten our existence on our island, which is Greek for more than three thousand years, and Christian for two thousand years”.

“This fight is not only ours, but concerns you and Hellenism in its totality”, he said.

In concluding, Archbishop Chrysostomos expressed his deep gratitude to the expatriates for their great acclaim in all the struggles for the liberation and justification of Cyprus.
