Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus refutes the reports referring that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew requested that the Archbishop of Albania should be excluded from the discussions with the rest Primates of the Orthodox Churches on the Ukrainian issue, on the grounds that he does not express the views of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
In his statement, Archbishop Chrysostomos, who had also taken the initiative of these meetings, stated that “we did not receive any such mandate or recommendation from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew regarding the non-participation of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania in the meetings with the rest Primates of the Orthodox Churches on the Ukrainian issue “.
It is pointed out that the Archbishop of Cyprus kept the Archbishop of Albania informed of his meetings so far with the Middle East Patriarchs with whom he held meetings.
He adds that the Archbishop of Albania had a telephone conversation with the three Middle East Patriarchs while they visited Cyprus.
The Archbishop of Cyprus says that in coming days he will travel to Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece, where he will hold meetings with the Heads of the aforementioned Churches. The Archbishop of Cyprus will keep Archbishop of Albania informed about these meetings.
“In conclusion, I state that such press reports are clearly of no benefit to anybody. If some people have the welfare of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in mind, and they truly love the Ecumenical Patriarch, they have to deal with these issues with particular attention,” he noted.
