Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus officiated the Divine Liturgy on Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, the fourth Sunday after Easter, at the Church of Great-martyr Varvara in Kaimakli, Nicosia.
The Archbishop presided over the Divine Liturgy and then addressed a homily to the faithful. In particular, he spoke of today’s passage from the Gospel: “God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
“Christ is the Truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, sent from the Father through the Son. Those who sincerely want to worship the Trinity must first set their hearts free and welcome God in them for their salvation. My brethren, I have heard a lot of complaints lately. Many people were wondering why the churches closed. Christ gives us the answer through today’s passage from the Gospel. Humans can overcome the difficulties only by having Christ in their heart,” he added.
“We will be able to defeat the coronavirus only with the presence of God. As you can see today, we informed our clergy of the measures in order to be able to receive as many faithful as possible in the churches, who will, certainly, keep an adequate distance from each other. We will have more and more freedom in the coming days. We will not allow in any case the virus to be transmitted, because we will not be irresponsible and indifferent. This is our major concern. I hope that all the churches in Cyprus will be complying with the rules regarding the number of faithful and social distancing. I hope that this ordeal will soon be over. If we have God in us, then we can overcome anything,” he concluded.
